First of all it is now spelt Haalbai. It is spelt Halbai. It is not Bengali sweet. It originated in Udupi, Karnataka. Owner being from karnataka should know these things. Why do I get the feeling that owner is not proud to be kannadiga? I can see lot of things like Puran poli (holige/obbattu) where local names are not used. No matter how good the sweets are in the store, I don't feel like going. I rather go to local karnataka/kannadiga sweet shop.
